Surprise!

I may have mentioned this before, but do y'all know I have an amazing husband?

Two weeks ago, on my 35th birthday, we were planning on having a small family dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. My dad and step-mother were coming into town and we were all going to go out for a nice little evening.

I hadn't been exactly thrilled about the idea of turning 35, and I was wondering if many people would remember my birthday and what kind of day it would be (no matter what anyone says, everyone likes a little fussing over their birthday). So, I got prettied up a bit and wore some new clothes and jewelery -- a nice change because I rarely get dressed up much anymore, and we can't go out as much as we used to due to Mike's need to be careful about germs and public places. We made our way to the restaurant, Mike led us into one of the side rooms and..... surprise! There they were -- a room full of our families all there for a surprise birthday party for me. Our parents, siblings and cousins were there, and Mike even managed to sneak my mom up for the weekend, all behind my back (a huge feat considering my mom and I talk several times a day and I'm very aware of any change in her routine). I shed quite a few happy tears, enjoyed a few apple/watermelon martinis, and had a wonderful evening with those I love the most. My dad even put together a DVD picture slideshow of me from when I was born up until now.

How Mike managed to plan this without tipping his hand or slipping up I will never know.

For that evening, it didn't matter so much what I didn't have, because everything that mattered most was right there with me.

35

Today's my birthday and I've decided to enjoy the heck out of it. Dinner with the family tonight and people making me feel special -- I've got a lot to be happy about.

T-Minus 50 Hours

On Saturday I turn 35. Ugh. Birthdays used to be fun and special. Now they're ugly reminders of time whizzing by. I don't want to do the whole "Marisa Tomei/'My Cousin Vinny'/'my-clock-is-ticking' thing" but I guess I always figured that by this age I'd have a little more to show for my years.
At least I have an awesome husband.
